AAEM/RSA Board of Directors

AAEM/RSA is proud to run fully democratic elections. Your resident and student representatives on the Board of Directors and Medical Student Council are nominated and elected entirely by YOU — our members!

Running for the AAEM/RSA Board of Directors is an opportunity for you to:

  • Make your mark on the national level by running for a seat.
  • Use your voice to ensure your class of residents and students are represented in the house of emergency medicine.
  • Gain national leadership experience.


Please also review the section 8.3 in the AAEM/RSA bylaws to see applicable criteria regarding running for a position on the AAEM/RSA Board of Directors or Medical Student Council.

Nominations will be open from January 16, 2025 through February 15, 2025.

Board of Director Responsibilities

Terms are for one year. All directors are required to:
  • Participate in regular conference calls and scheduling polls; responding to email and GroupMe communications in a timely manner.
  • Attend up to three in-person board meetings to be set by the board, with the final meeting taking place at the Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly in the year following board appointment. Funding is provided for these in-person meetings.
  • Advance the mission of AAEM/RSA by growing membership through recruitment.
  • Regularly review AAEM/RSA internal emails and respond as needed.
  • Aid staff in operational issues.
  • Fulfill other duties required by their position.


Open Positions & Responsibilities

President
  • Leads the AAEM/RSA Board of Directors.
  • Serves as the official spokesperson for AAEM/RSA.
  • Serves as the Resident Representative on the AAEM Board of Directors, which includes attending five in-person board meetings to be set by the AAEM board, including the two meetings taking place at the Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly in the year following board appointment. Funding is provided for these in-person meetings.
  • Requirements: All candidates running for president must have served on the RSA board, or as a committee chair or vice chair, for at least one year. They also must be in or entering their PGY-2 or greater year of residency, rising interns (4th year medical matching into emergency medicine) shall not be eligible.
Vice President
  • Assists the president in leading the AAEM/RSA Board of Directors.
  • Serve as spokesperson to outside organizations when asked by the president.
  • Serves as a board liaison to one or more of the committees with assignments being determined by the president.
At-Large Board Members (6 positions)
  • Serves as a board liaison to one or more of the committees with assignments being determined by the president. 
  • Promotes our mission by increasing AAEM/RSA membership through recruiting, developing valuable member benefits, and communicating with residency program directors.
  • Attends committee meetings as scheduled by committee chairs.
Student Representative
  • Serves as the board liaison to the Medical Student Council and other committees as assigned by the president.
  • Chairs the monthly meetings of the Medical Student Council.
